Week 1: Monday, July 30, 2007: From the Road, Claremont to Hisperia

Ali and Kristian leave the support of all the Supercamp kids, facilitators and Team Leaders behind, only to be called by News 980, the most listened to radio station in LA. Drive-time 980AM reaches over 900,000 listeners. After a five minute interview, we're back on the bikes.

Ali cycles from Claremont to Devere, and Kristian cycles from Devere to Hisperia. Kristian learns a quick lesson about water consumption while riding up the mountains to the High Desert and stopping to talk with people who have vehicles that are not working. The lesson is: when a truck driver with a broken-down truck asks for radiator fluid (water) don't give it to him unless you know the full distance you still have to ride. In this case, it is another 20 miles.

The ride to Hisperia ends with finding the Cal Earth Institute. This is an architectural education place that has 5 acres of domes made from special bags that contain dirt. Truly a phenomenal experience to witness these domes.
