Week 2: Saturday, August 11, 2007; Rest Day with the Durango-Tangs

We stayed the night at the Valentine house with our new friend Vanessa Spencer and her awesome roommates Krista, Jeremiah, Dan and Danny. Christy met her on a website called www.couchsurfing.com and she generously offered the team her place to stay. She’s an amazing graphic designer and will help us out with some website updates!!! We woke up just after 10am and got ready for the day. Vanessa and her crew were taking us to do one of the classic “Durango-tang” traditions, to float down the Animas River in inner tubes. We pilled into Dan’s Monster truck and headed down to the Animas River. Dan and his brother Jake are really passionate about monster trucks and were working all morning on raising one of their trucks and putting in a new conversion transfer case. Shah and Christy decided to relax and hang out by the river while Kristian and Ali jumped in the cold water and relaxed in their tubes.

After the tubing Vanessa had to run to work at
the Hotel and the rest of the crew headed over
to the local burger place called Max’s Big Burgers. It’s a family owned burger joint that makes amazing milkshakes!

We had a quiet evening and watched a movie at the Valentine house. They are a really unique group with diverse talents and interests. We were so grateful to spend time with them and learn more about Durango!
